United Wholesale Mortgage

What is your role at UWM?

I am a UX Designer I at UWM. I am the sole designer of a refinance product named KEEP. This product consists of KEEP Calculations, Broker Preferences, KEEP Pipeline, and the Borrower App, which is desktop and mobile. I am in the process of updating the Broker Preferences into a new design, using the updated design system, these designs cannot be shown at the moment because the design projects will be released in May during UWM Live. For this redesign I discussed how I used card sorting, peer reviews, and white boarding sessions with the UX team and the product team to create an updated layout. I have also helped on other products for the company including designs for the brand and marketing with the marketing calendar, contact page, and lead pipeline prototype.

Information about the KEEP Broker Preferences Below . . .

For this redesign I focused on card sorting, peer reviews, and white boarding sessions with the UX team and the product team to create an updated layout. The first iterations of the design include updates with the KEEP logo, global settings that are required to fill out and an updated settings menu. These updates were iterations using the EASE design system that is already in place and being used on the UWM website. I am in the process of updating the Broker Preferences into a new design, using the updated design system.

Information about the Card Sorting and White Boarding Activities Below . . .

Before creating mockups, I focused on doing a card sorting activity with the product team and a white boarding session also with the team. The card sorting activity was a great way to have everyone on the product team and I look at all of the questions within the Broker Preferences and rearrange them into smaller and more specific categories that create a better user flow and hierarchy. During the few meetings, the product team and I were able to create an updated layout with the white boarding and card sorting activities. This specific activity was from FigJam and I also used another FigJam board to put competitor analysis of the best way to layout a settings page. Card sorting can also be done using the platform Maze.

FAQs

  • For the updated layout, I first had two requirements gathering meetings with the product team, a few UX designers, and the UX writer on the project. Through these meetings I was able to understand the information that was needed on the page. I then set up a card sorting/white boarding session with the product team to help understand how we wanted to reorganize the questions to make an easier experience for the user. After this, I was able to make a wireframe of the design, mockups, and eventually the final product.

  • This product is used by Broker Owners and Loan Officers to customize their settings for all KEEP products for refinancing.

  • Currently, I am in the process of updating the Broker Preferences to using the new design system created by the design system team at UWM. This will create a consistent design throughout all of the UWM products.
